Public Policy, Advocacy, and Legislation
In order to achieve our mission, Friends of the Family engages in advocacy activities, including public policy advocacy. Friends of the Family may take positions on public policy issues that meet at least one of these four criteria:
  • Affects the status of the Maryland Family Support Center network and its program participants
  • Affects the quality of early childhood education programs and services
  • Affects the nonprofit status or operations of Friends of the Family
  • Affects Friends of the Family's ability to work toward its mission
Since the merger of Friends of the Family with Maryland Committee for Children in May 2009, we have consolidated our advocacy efforts. The Public Policy Department of Maryland Family Network (our new name!) provides a strong voice for young children and their families in the Maryland General Assembly and in State agencies. The Maryland Family Network advocacy work is guided by our Public Policy Committee, which meets regularly and is open to all interested individuals.
